InTouch Health was one of five robotic technology companies featured in the Sunday, September 5 edition of the New York Times. Journalist John Markoff interviewed Dr. Alan Shatzel from Catholic Healthcare West - Mercy General Hospital, as well as Dr. John Whapham at Loyola University Medical Center, about using the RP-7 Remote Presence system to consult on their patients. In the article the journalist explains how one hospital uses Remote Presence, "The robot is what allowed Dr. Shatzel to 'be' in the patient's room far away. From an earlier telephone conversation with the emergency room doctor, the patient's condition had not been clear. But in speaking directly with the patient, examining his face and control of his hands and glancing with the camera at the cardiac monitor in the room. Dr. Shatzel could assess the stroke...with the same acuity as if he were there." Dr. John Whapham uses the RP-7 technology in his current practice at Loyola University Medical Center, and previously used the robot during his residency, where a Michigan-based Remote Presence system created several regional stroke networks. In the article, Dr. Whapham explains that he can perform consultations at any time, "I'll pull out the laptop... You're live, and you can walk around, examine, image, zoom in and out. I do it all the time."
