New Northwest Telestroke Survey Results

Recently, a telestroke survey was conducted in the Pacific Northwest, polling hospitals and healthcare professionals. The survey was compiled by a 60-member Regional Telestroke Initiative team, a collaboration of the Washington Department of Health, Northwest Regional Telehealth Resource Center, and the Northwest Regional Stroke Network.

Some key findings of the survey:

    •  88% of survey respondents indicated their rural communities lack stroke neurologists.
    •  Over half of the respondents (64%) are considering or developing a telestroke program
        to link to specialists.
    •  45% are in the process of developing an audio/visual telestroke program and 18% are
        considering it.
    •  Of those respondents who currently have or are developing telestroke programs,
        InTouch Health ranked as the highest in the region at 23%.
    •  36% want to participate in the development of a regional telestroke initiative, whereas
        61% want more information about the telestroke initiative.
