Bipartisan Support for Telemedicine |
|
In Modern Healthcare's online edition, Jennifer Lubell writes about the bipartisan support for adoption and reimbursement of telemedicine services. CMS's current and previous administrators, Drs. Donald Berwick and Mark McClellan, both spoke at the 2010 American Telemedicine Association's mid-year meeting this week. They stressed the importance of collaboration between CMS and the telemedicine community in three main areas: improve quality of medical services, expand access of medical care to underserved areas and reduce healthcare costs. In a recent press release by the American Telemedicine Association, chief executive officer Jonathan Linkous is quoted saying, "The support of these two national leaders in healthcare reflects the growing consensus for telemedicine. It is particularly telling that this support is bipartisan. Today, we have heard CMS administrators from both Republican and Democratic administrations endorsing the adoption of telemedicine into the mainstream practice of healthcare."
