InTouch Health is pioneering Remote Presence, a new modality for physician-patient interactions. Wherever access to expertise is limited, Remote Presence can extend a physician's reach to manage care, thereby removing a critical barrier to hospital efficiency. With expertise available at a moment's notice, the RP-7® can enable improved safety and quality of care, and increased hospital throughput.
Stroke
A major challenge in delivering stroke care is the limited treatment window for getting a stroke victim to the right expertise. Remote Presence helps eliminate this barrier by facilitating access to stroke experts through a collaborative "hub and spoke" network of hospitals.
Stroke experts at a primary or comprehensive stroke center can use Remote Presence to provide consults to other hospitals.
Pediatrics
Children requiring emergent diagnosis and care are often transferred from their local hospital to the nearest children's hospital. These transfers not only burden the healthcare system but can also cause emotional and financial stress for the family. Pediatrics experts from the children's hospital ICU and ED use Remote Presence to provide consults to regional community and rural hospitals, appropriately triaging the pediatric patient, and often allowing the child to remain in their local hospital.
Emergency Care
Physician specialists (e.g., neurosciences, cardiovascular, trauma, orthopedics) are required to take call in the hospital's emergency department (ED). These busy physicians are often tied up in the OR, clinic or elsewhere and cannot immediately attend to the ED. This can lead to long delays for patients, slower administration of key treatments, and overcrowding for the hospital. Remote Presence enables specialists to quickly and efficiently respond to ED call at the point of care whenever they are needed.
Intensivist Care
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) morbidity, mortality, length of stay (LOS) and costs are greatly reduced when critical care is led by a board certified intensivist. Since most hospitals cannot attract enough intensivists to staff their ICU's, Remote Presence is a viable extender of intensivist ICU presence. Major teaching centers, community hospitals, and even rural/underserved hospitals have implemented Remote Presence solutions resulting in improved care, reduced LOS, and increased satisfaction for patients, staff and physicians.
Patient Rounds
Physicians typically round on their hospitalized patients once daily. Through the RP-7 Robot, physicians can perform additional night and weekend rounds from their home, clinic or office. These additive interactions are not only very popular among patients and anxious family members, but are an effective tool in advancing the care management process resulting in earlier patient discharges. A recent study evaluating remote rounding showed a 1.2 day decrease in LOS with no negative impact on morbidity or mortality.
